Yorke: Life of the party

The following is from CDNow’s Miss Truth gossip section:

It’s not called music’s biggest night just for the trophies — GRAMMY Awards night is also about the parties. Here’s a rundown on some of the night’s post-show happenings:

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke was the life of the party over at the Park Plaza Hotel, where EMI/Virgin celebrated its GRAMMY Award wins by Lenny Kravitz (his fourth win in a row for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for “Dig In”), Coldplay (Best Alternative Album for Parachutes), and Janet Jackson (Best Dance Recording for “All for You”).

Yorke wasn’t stumbling around or anything, but it did appear that he and the wine had been engrossed in some deep GRAMMY Award discussions, given his uncharacteristically happy disposition!

Here’s the latest email from the people at w.a.s.t.e.:

Hello all,
As you will note, this is a short (yet sweet) message to notify w.a.s.t.e. members of two things.

One
We have recently added a pleasant garment to our range of pleasant garments. The new reversible shirt is to be found in the brand spanking new section.

Two
Following Stanley Donwood and Tchocky’s success at the Grammy awards (Best Recording Package for the Amnesiac Limited Edition), we have managed to get hold of the Amnesiac Limited Edition. This can be found in the listen and watch section as Amnesiac CD and booklet.

That’s all for now.

Nigel Godrich & Beck

The original genre-hopper, Beck, has teamed up with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich to work on his upcoming album. The pair previously worked together on Beck’s 1998 acoustic departure, Mutations, which was recorded in around two week’s time. According to NME, sources close to the singer say that Beck hopes to have the same type of work schedule on the new album, about a song a day. As previously reported, Dan the Automator has also been working on the new album, which has yet to be named or given a release date. Beck took time out from working on the album on Tuesday (February 26) to take part in a benefit for the Recording Artists’ Coalition in support of of Senate Bill 1246 – legislation to repeal California Labor Code 2855 that excludes recording artists from 1987’s “Seven-Year Statute.” At the event, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke made a surprise appearance, joining Beck for a show-stopping rendition of the Velvet Underground’s “I’m Set Free.”

New album news

From www.worldpop.com:

Radiohead plan to go back into the studio in May to record a new album according to Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien. The guitarist told worldpop: ‘The band are planning a get-together in May in the studio. We’re putting all gigs on hold at the moment to concentrate on writing new material.’
Speaking at yesterday’s NME/Carling Awards where the band won the award for Best Video for Pyramid Song, O’Brien said the new album may be a return to a guitar based format, ditching the electronica the band experimented with on Kid A and Amnesiac. ‘We’re listening to a lot of guitar music at the moment,’ said O’Brien. ‘I like a lot of the new bands like Electric Soft Parade.’

‘It’s a bit embarrassing to pick up an award for Best Video,’ continued the guitarist, ‘because it wasn’t made by us.’

O’Brien also refuted the band’s critics who claim they make depressing records. ‘We don’t make unhappy records. We make uplifting ones,’ he said.

Radiohead’s guitarist Jonny Greenwood has also contributed to a new Bryan Ferry solo album entitled Frantic. The album is released on 15 April and Greenwood played on the track, Hiroshima.
