Is this thing on?

As you can tell, this site hasn’t been updated in a while. Unfortunately, I find it increasingly harder and harder to find time to give it the attention it deserves. Green Plastic has been around for 14 years and it’s not going away but in order to keep it going, I’m hoping to find one or two fellow Radiohead fans who would like to write and post news on a regular basis.

The following candidates should be able to do the following:

  • Write well, understand grammar, and have a general sense of the English language.
  • Must be comfortable with WordPress and Twitter.
  • Must love Radiohead. Duh. Maybe you love them too much?
  • Be on top of all recent and breaking Radiohead happenings and be able to report about them in a timely manner.

That’s it! This is a non-paying gig but I can, whenever possible, hook you up with random RH stuff (stickers, posters, etc…). Also, if you’d like, you can get a greenplastic.com email address. I know, awesome, right?!

If you’re interested in helping out and have some spare time on your hands, please send me a note.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who responded offering to help out.

Your support is needed!

I’ve been running this site for 13 years now and it’s been quite an experience. Every now and then, I reluctantly ask for your support to keep the site running. Server costs for both greenplastic.com and mortigitempo.com are expensive, and relying on money from ads only covers a fraction of the costs. If you’d like to make a contribution via Paypal, I’d definitely appreciate it. I’m trying to pay for a year’s worth of serving costs so any amount is welcomed.

If you can’t donate, no worries. Your continued support by visiting is valued just as much.

If you do have an extra dollar or two, please click on the “donate” button below.

Thanks again!

Green Plastic is 13!

Today marks our 13th birthday, meaning this site is now a teenager. Time goes by fast!

Let’s pause for a moment to remember what happened in 1997:

  • January 20 – U.S. President Bill Clinton is inaugurated for his second term.
  • February 28 – The North Hollywood shootout takes place between 2 heavily armed bank robbers and Los Angeles Police Department officers.
  • March 26 – In San Diego, California, 39 Heaven’s Gate cultists commit mass suicide at their compound.
  • May 2 – Tony Blair is appointed Prime Minister of the United Kingdom by Elizabeth II.
  • May 21 – Radiohead’s OK Computer is released in Japan
  • June 16 – Radiohead’s OK Computer is released in the UK
  • July 1 – Radiohead’s OK Computer is released in the US
  • August 1- Steve Jobs returns to Apple Computer, Inc at Macworld in Boston.
  • August 31 – Diana, Princess of Wales, is taken to hospital after a car accident shortly after midnight, in the Pont de l’Alma road tunnel in Paris. She is pronounced dead at 04:00 a.m
  • October 26 – 1997 World Series: The Florida Marlins defeat the Cleveland Indians.
  • October 30 – After suffering a brain aneurysm onstage, R.E.M.’s drummer Bill Berry announces that he will leave the band.
  • November 10 – Telecom companies WorldCom and MCI Communications announce a US$37 billion merger to form MCI WorldCom (the largest merger in U.S. history).

Crazy! Seems like a totally different world. Many thanks to all the visitors over the past 13 years! Here’s to another 13! *gulp*

Mobile version of Green Plastic now available

If you view greenplastic.com on your mobile device, you’ll hopefully be happy to know that it’s a lot easier now. Users of the iPhone/iPod touch, Android, and various other mobile platforms should now see a mobile-formatted version of this site when they arrive. If for some reason you don’t like it, no worries! There’s a option at the bottom which will allow you to switch back to the normal site.

Radiohead Lately

pandemoniumx3

It’s been a while since our last post. Here’s what you (and we) have missed:

Radiohead opens up a new digital store. You can now purchase the In Rainbows CD2, as well as other treats.

Radiohead’s Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief Get Deluxe Reissue Treatment. Capitol is at it again. (via Pitchfork)

Ed and Phil are being included on the Neil Finn supergroup benefit album. It’s called The Sun Came Out and will feature the singing debut of Phil. Yeah!

Stanley Donwood exhibits new work in Bristol ‘EL CHUPACABRA’.

Stanley’s apt choice of title ‘El Chupacabra’, meaning ‘the goat sucker’ in Spanish is his response to suffering a long fixation with the horned gods and having to live amongst some of the most mendacious economic times he can remember provoking him to start making pictures of Pandemons.

“I’ve got nothing against goats. I’ve simply discovered that if I draw a goat, give it the mouth of a rapacious carnivore then dress it in the suit and tie of a disgraced banker or politician it looks fucking evil. There are thirteen Pandemons in the show called ‘el chupacabra’. Thirteen ghosts at the funeral. Thirteen spectres at the feast of the goat. Loitering on the blackened cliffs of free-market economics, cackling as they raise a glass to toast Milton Friedman, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher and Augusto Pinochet. Gallons of paint I’ve poured over them to drown their snickering. But still they laugh.” Comments Stanley Donwood.

Sounds amazing.

And finally, you’ll notice a new look to GP. This is our first major design change in over 6 years. After dozens of mockups, we’re finally settled on this look, which should hopefully be more clean and simple. Many of the sections are still old so we’re working to convert those over. Until then, things may be a bit stupid.
