Nigel Godrich & Beck

The original genre-hopper, Beck, has teamed up with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich to work on his upcoming album. The pair previously worked together on Beck’s 1998 acoustic departure, Mutations, which was recorded in around two week’s time. According to NME, sources close to the singer say that Beck hopes to have the same type of work schedule on the new album, about a song a day. As previously reported, Dan the Automator has also been working on the new album, which has yet to be named or given a release date. Beck took time out from working on the album on Tuesday (February 26) to take part in a benefit for the Recording Artists’ Coalition in support of of Senate Bill 1246 – legislation to repeal California Labor Code 2855 that excludes recording artists from 1987’s “Seven-Year Statute.” At the event, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke made a surprise appearance, joining Beck for a show-stopping rendition of the Velvet Underground’s “I’m Set Free.”
