The Guinness British Hit Singles and Albums book comes out each year, and ranks artists according to how many weeks they’ve spent on the British charts (singles and albums). The leader of the top 100 is Elvis, with 2463 weeks.
If Radiohead stays on the charts this year, they may be able to crack the top 100…if they top the fellow “closers” running alongside them…Britney Spears, Eminem, Westlife, and Iron Maiden.
Hey- the guys are on a break, what do you want? Perhaps you should play outside for a bit?
Seriously, things are slow on the Radiohead front these days, and therefore the GP news page moves a bit slow as well. As always, when something of note occurs, we’ll be right here, so keep checking in.

$24,370 and counting.
The Politick Tsunami Fundraiser has shattered the goal of $20,000 and raised $24,370 in a little more than four days. This would not have been possible without the support of the Radiohead online community…according to what limited stats I can drag up (these are sketchy at best), I’d estimate over $15,000 worth of those donations are from Radiohead fans, $10,000 from GP readers alone.
Phenomenal. Keep it coming- nothing would make me happier than to hit $100,000, although that’s going to take some work. You game?
I’m dumbfounded. You all are amazing.
The Radiohead community is generally thought of as intelligent, thoughtful, and caring. Put generous on the list- in just 24 hours, readers of GP and At Ease (mainly GP, according to the referrer stats) have donated nearly $2000 to help the victims of the South Asian tsunamis.
Amazing.
Once again, while we’re not collecting donations ourselves, we are trying to keep a running tally of the online community’s donations. If you donate, to any organization, please send an email to donations@politick.info, inserting the amount you donated in the subject line. Please let me know if it’s pounds, euros, dollars or cents, and please spread the word. You guys and gals continue to amaze me.
Tsunami aid.
As you likely know, South Asia has been decimated by tsunamis. Over 150,000 people are confirmed dead, and many think that by the time all of the victims are accounted for, the toll will easily reach 300,000-400,000. It’s truly staggering.
We don’t normally use GP for fundraising or political things, but the sheer scale of this tragedy goes far beyond anything we’ve seen in our lifetimes. What’s more, we have a chance to make a difference, right now. What’s needed are cash donations. Some say that Bush and Blair have dropped the ball by not acting quickly or strongly enough- well, let’s pick it up for them. Rather than complaining about our governments, let’s show the world they truly DON’T speak for us. Let’s do a sidestep, and let’s raise some cash.
I’ve set up a sort of information clearinghouse over at http://www.politick.info/tsunami. You’ll find places to donate, and some basic information about the tragedy.
You’ll also find a “money meter”. I’ve set our goal at $20,000- not a whole lot. If every GP reader were to just give $1, we’d meet the goal in hours. In order to track donations, I ask that if you donate money, send an email to donations@politick.info, and put how much you donated in the subject.
Radiohead fans have time and time again proven to be the most compassionate, caring, and intelligent group of people on the planet. Let’s show them again, shall we?
Happy Holidays from GP
Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, whatever…we wish you and your family the best. Here’s hoping 2005 represents in ways that 2004 certainly did NOT.
BTW- I recommend Kurtis Blow’s “Christmas Rap” for holiday listening.
