Tour Diary #3

The third and final show last night was simply amazing. I got there really early and had to stand in the line in the rain forever, but it was well worth it.

I got to talk to Mel again before the show. It’s so good to be able to put a face on someone you know from the internet!

The show was wonderful. That’s all I have to say about it. I will write a much more detailed review when I get back into San Francisco tomorrow. Plus, I have a ton of pics to share!

Cheers

Tour Diary #2

Well… I really thought that Saturday’s show was remarkable and unbeatable – Then there was last night. All I have to say is that the energy in that tent and on that stage last night was somewhat of a paranormal experience. I have never been in an audience like that before, where everyone was moving along, up and down, left and right, with the flow of the music.

The show last night has left me speechless. The band had a great vibe about them and all looked happy to be there.

I got to the show a little earlier than the night before because I wanted to check out Clinic, the supporting band. After picking up my tickets, we headed over to the w.a.s.t.e. tent and marveled over the merchandise again. As I was looking at the wide selection of shirts, I recognized a face behind the gate selling t-shirts. I quickly realized it was the famous Mel from w.a.s.t.e. She’s the one that looks after all of us RH fans and has grown in popularity with the fans. Her late night visits to the radiohead message board give us all someone “official” to talk to. I yelled out “Mel” and she quickly turned around. I told her who I was and she smiled and we shook hands. I have talked to her before and I can say that she is just as pleasant and nice in person as she is on the internet and on the phone. She was busy so we ended the conversation short. I’m sure I’ll see her again tonight.

Clinic was okay. I think I was too excited to see RH again that Clinic didn’t do much for me. My friend and I managed to get in to the front area and were maybe 6 or 7 feet away from the security fence in front of the stage. We had a perfect view of Jonny’s toybox area with all his goodies.

Clinic had a short set and then there was the 40 minute wait for Radiohead. At 8 o’clock, the band finally came on and went straight into “Optimistic.” You could tell right away that they had much more energy and that the show was going to be brilliant.

From there on they played most of the regular set list songs, including “National Anthem,” “Street Spirit,” “How to Disappear Completely,” “Karma Police,” plus countless others. Once I get the set list staright, I’ll post it up.

I had my camera with me and took some great shots, especially of Jonny. Once I get back home, I’ll upload them.

While in the audience, I met some great people. I just want to give a quick shout-out to Alex, a guy I was standing next to who I’ve actually communicated in the past with via email. My friend Brian was asking people what their favorite RH sites were, and many said Follow Me Around and Green Plastic. He would quickly point to me and say “this is the guy that runs Green Plastic!” I, of course, was slightly embarrassed with the attention but it was interesting to meet the people that you communicate with on a daily basis.

Well, I’m off to do some sight seeing now. I will be attending the final show tonight and am looking forward to it. My body still hasn’t adjusted to the time zone here. It’s still 5am back in San Francisco.

I will post again tomorrow!

Cheers.

GP Tour Diary #1

I arrived in London yesterday at around 1pm local time. My flight was a very uncomfortable 10 hour journey from San Francisco. I couldn’t sleep at all because I was sitting between two larger guys who didn’t believe in sharing the arm rests.

Anyway. I met up with my friend Brian and we left Heathrow airport on the tube. We were sitting there and I saw this guy next to us listening to one of those Sony Musiclips. At first I thought it was something else but then I noticed it had the modified Radiohead bear on it! I quickly asked him about it and he said that he does some record producing and got the clip cause he knew the right people. He mentioned he met Ed last July and even told him how great the fan sites where. I told him I ran Green Plastic and he was very cool and said he knew of it and visits it regularly. His name was Alvaro and was from Portugal.

We finally got to the Harlingford House in Russel Square. I couldn’t believe how small the hotel was! It was very nice, though.

We left for the park shortly after checking in. It took us forever to find the place.

Once there, I was amazed at the beauty of the tent. It was tremendous! We got there right when Clinic was on but I wanted to head on over to the w.a.s.t.e. tent so we missed their set. They had lots of goodies for sale there! Posters, rain ponchos, t-shirts, etc… I tried to look for Mel from w.a.s.t.e. but couldn’t find her. Maybe tonight.

After spending too much on merchandise, we headed to the main tent. Radiohead came on at 8 and started with the National Anthem. I cannot say enough good things about how great the sound set up was there. It was amazing! The band sounded great and played most of the same stuff from earlier tent shows. I’ll post a set list up soon, a long with some pictures.

We met some great people, including two girls from South Africa. Just want to say “Hi” to Amanda and Pippa!

Some highlights: Thom seemed pissed at first and didn’t talk. He said “I’m not talking tonight cause enough crap has been said already.”

How to Disappear was completely beautiful. I had goose bumps everywhere!

During Karma Police, Thom messed up the second verse by singing the first verse over again.

Idioteque was spectacular. Thom was everywhere, exuberant and dancing all around the stage. What a great song!

Well, I’ve got to go. Even though it’s raining, I’ll still be at tonight’s show. If any of you out there wants to say hi, please do! I’ll be wearing a navy blue Portishead t shirt and possibly a yellow w.a.s.t.e. rain poncho!

Another entry will come tomorrow!

Cheers.

News for September 14, 2000

This may very well be the best news you hear all day

From Music365.co.uk:

RADIOHEAD are believed to be entering the studio before the end of the year to start recording their sixth album – just weeks after the release of their fourth LP ‘Kid A’ and several months ahead of their as-yet-untitled fifth effort.

Music365 has learned that recording for the album could start as after the band finish their UK and Ireland tour, which winds up in Dublin in October.

The band are already thought to have finished their fifth album, and will mix it in November. The album is expected to include several tracks that the band have played on their recent live shows in Europe, including ‘Knives Out’ and ‘Dollars And Cents’.

It is described as being a more traditional alternative guitar album than the more electronic ‘Kid A’.

Music365 has learned that the band want to start recording another album as soon as possible – and with ‘Kid A’s successor rumored to be ready for release as early as next spring, this could mean Radiohead releasing three albums within 18 months.

Radiohead are also expected to continue touring in small bursts next year, which may see them return to Europe as well as visiting the USA, Japan and Australasia.

A spokesperson for Radiohead, however, could not confirm any studio time before the end of the year.

About the L.A. show

Many have asked about when tickets will go on-sale for the upcoming Radiohead show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on October 20. Nothing is known yet so stay tuned. Once anything is known, it’ll be here.

News for September 13, 2000

Radiohead to play Los Angeles on October 20th

It’s official. Radiohead will be playing the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on October 20, 2000. You can read the full article at cdnow.com here.

Radiohead’s Plan B!

This is from nme.com:

RADIOHEAD are in the studio working on a new album, due for release in Spring 2001, just six months after their new, ‘KID A’ album is out, nme.com can reveal.

The album is believed to contain the more accessible, commercial material which the band have written and recorded over the last two years and will be promoted by a full-scale tour of the UK and Europe. Songs tipped to appear on the new album include ‘Knives Out’, ‘Egyptian Song’ and ‘Dollars And Cents’ which the band have played on recent live outings.

Unlike ‘Kid A’, which frontman Thom Yorke allegedly wanted to name ‘ENC’ to stand for ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’, the 2001 Radiohead album is expected to be accompanied by single releases and promotional duties.

Radiohead’s Kid A on M2

M2 (MTV 2 USA) will be playing KID A in its entirety on the channel Monday, September 18th at 10pm ET. M2 is also playing exclusive blips and Radiohead has been deemed buzzworth at MTV.

Thom talks about Optimistic on the radio

Thom made an appearance on the official message board this morning and made a comment about the Vancouver radio station (104.9 XFM) playing “Optimistic” before they were supposed to. (Read yesterday’s news for more info.)

Thom had this to say:

“yeah its fairly pointless i agree
but why should they get to play it exclusively first on RADio with no permission from us? that seems unfair. they new it would get on our tits.

its far worse to me than napster which is more just like home taping.
why should they be able to boast about having it? anyfool could do the same..

anyway it will be irrelevant next week…. its been a nightmare sitting on Kid A for 4months. having to destroy your CDs after listening all the stupid security around the journalists listening to it.

for us it was just to try and keep things nice and cool…

anyway you can all decide for yourselves now, which is cool. whatever we are proud of it we hope yooz like it. and that ll be that and we can get on with our lives”

Kid A release date in Latin America

Kid A will be released on October 2 in Latin America and most other parts of the world, except for the US and Canada, where it’ll be released the day after.

In Bogota, Colombia, there will be an event at the Tower Records on the release date in which limited edition copies of Kid A will be available for purchase.

[thanks to Andres]

Limited Edition Kid A

Many people have been questioning the availability of the limited edition version of Kid A, which includes a extra booklet that is hidden inside the jewel case. If you purchase Kid A on it’s first run, you’ll get the limited edition. This means that if anyone picks up a copy during the first week or so, they will get one. If you pre-order from stores or online vendors, you should get one also.

Listening Party in Chicago!

Aliveone, a bar in Chicago is throwing a listening party for Kid A on the Wednesday following the release (October 3rd). Along with the full album, many live tracks will also be played. For more info on Aliveone and directions, head on over to www.aliveone.com.
