Those blips invade MTV

MTV America has started showing a Radiohead blip called “Bear Witch“, a parody of the Blair Witch Project, in which bears jump out of the forest.

More blips will supposedly appear tonight on MTV at 11pm. Along with the “Bear Witch“, the “White Mountains” and “Giants” blips will be also be shown.

[many thanks to Tyler C]

Shut ’em down

Yesterday we reported that the Vancouver radio station, 104.9 XFM, was playing “Optimistic” on the air. The station was set to play it again last night but couldn’t cause they received a cease and desist fax from EMI. Coincidentally, Thom was on the official message board about 30 minutes earlier and made a comment about it.

Radio stations around North America will begin to play “Optimistic” on September 18th, legally. 🙂

Kid A Everywhere

As many of you know, the studio versions of Kid A are floating all around the internet. Nigel was on the official message board and had this to say:

” It is literally too much traffic to be able to have a proper chat on here any more. Suffice it to say that personally I don’t really mind that the albums up. If I’ve ever downloaded anything I liked, I’ve always gone and bought it afterwards. I mean, you can’t really have a relationship with a file, can you? …Thats what the cult of record buying is all about. If more people hear the album because it’s easily accessible then good. If they like it and can afford it then I believe they’ll buy it. It’s actually quite fascinating to watch people getting it too!!!! Thanks for your help.”

[thanks to darren and rich]

*please don’t ask us where or how to find the mp3s…

Kid A propaganda

Posters and those nifty little blips are showing up everywhere to promote the release of Kid A. Recent reports have posters and stickers appearing in New York City while the media blips are being aired on Canada’s MuchMusic channel. Even Circuit City, a large electronics chain in the US, is airing the blips on their televisions twice every hour!

The UNKLE Probe

Tomorrow night on MTV 2 (the UK one, not the US channel), they will be airing a full hour profile on UNKLE’s “Rabbit in Your Headlights” video directed by Jonathan Glazer (Street Sprit, Karma Police). Last night’s playback in NYC

The Kid A playback for media and fans went very well last night in the Sony IMAX theatre at Lincoln Center in New York City. The lucky people who were let in were treated to a multimedia display on the huge IMAX screen while they listened to Kid A. We have a couple of reviews for you, one from someone who attended the playback and the media cocktail party, and some from fans who were let in. Enjoy!

You can also read NME’s article about it here.

Now you can “see it all”

MTV has just introduced “webeos”, music videos on the web. On of their first ones is a webeo for Bjork’s “I’ve Seen It All” but unfortunately it is a version without Thom. Nevertheless, it’s pretty neat! Go here to view!

Thom recently did a duet with Bjork on the song for her soundtrack to her movie “Dancer in the Dark.” The soundtrack, with the Thom version, will be out on September 15th.

Just a reminder…

That Kid A will be played on Steve Lamaq’s show on the UK radio station, Radio 1, on Monday, September 18th. The album will also be aired on the Dutch radio station VPRO, on the same night. The airing will happen between 22:00 and 23:00.

If you can’t listen to it, there will be many airings of the album plus other goodies on a lot of the fan sites, including Green Plastic, courtesy of Capitol Record’s iBlip. If you have a Radiohead site and would like to host the iBlip, go here. The fun should start on September 11th.
