When the news slows down, this is what you get…
Third Eye Blind’s Stephen Jenkins recently mentioned Radiohead in an interview he did with MTV:
“I feel like I’ve come out of my dark period,” he said. “I feel really romantic about the life that I’m living again and everything seems fresh and exciting. I heard Thom Yorke [of Radiohead] say he wasn’t interested in rock anymore. Well I am, and I’m still moved by it. I’m interested in creating these musical emotions and conditions that are real, and that you can step into.”

“Scott Tenorman Must Die.”
Radiohead will be making an appearance on the Comedy Central animated show South Park on July 11, 2001. Here’s the details from Comedy Central:
Wednesday, July 11 at 10:00 p.m., world-renowned RADIOHEAD will make a special guest appearance on “South Park.” The band will play a vital role in Cartman’s plot for revenge against an offensive eighth grader in the show entitled, “Scott Tenorman Must Die.”
In “Scott Tenorman Must Die,” Cartman gets pubic hair. But Cartman doesn’t get just any pubes; he buys some from one of the older kids at South Park Elementary, Scott Tenorman. Cartman wants to show the other boys that he can be the first kid in the fourth grade with this mark of manliness, until everyone tells him that pubes don’t count unless he grows his own. Cartman seeks wicked revenge on Scott Tenorman when he won’t give him his money back.
Should be very interesting…
In more surprising news, Radiohead will be letting the International Olympic Committee use “I Might Be Wrong” for some TV spots during the Salt Lake City 2002 Winter Olympic Games in February. Here’s a snippet from an article at MTV.com:
“It’s not a money thing,” guitarist Ed O’Brien explained. “We don’t do adverts for socks or aftershave. The Olympic committee is a charitable organization. That’s why we’re doing it. If it’s sponsored by MasterCard, we’re not interested. But it’s advertising the spirit of the games.”

Amnesiac drops to #8
Amnesiac drops to #8 in the US Billboard Album Chart. {thanks to Zak}
Here’s the reason, according to the band’s management, why the Beta Band didn’t perform at the Houston show the other night:
“the band were scheduled to perform in Houston however due to immigration problems they missed the show. They are currently on their way to Denver for tomorrow’s show and will be on all other shows”
The Beta Band’s Official Website has been updated too. {thanks to Jim}
Amnesiac packaging was chosen as a “Pick of the Month” by Creative Review. Subscribers to the site are allowed to read this text:
“We’ve been a bit “Radiohead heavy” of late, but we promise to stop just as soon as we’ve mentioned the packaging for a special issue of their new album, Amnesiac. A cloth-bound hardback book, hailing from “Nosuch Library” features paintings by long-time Radiohead collaborator, Stanley Donwood [CR passim]. The CD is stowed inside the front cover complete with library style lending card and due date stamps (actually the birthdays of everyone involved with the album). It comes as a “limited edition” of 250,000 (not that limited then) and costs 15.99. Says Donwood, who also designed the piece with Tchocky: “The book is a relic from the past. You should scuff it and mistreat it until it looks like the one on the front of the CD packaging. Then you need to separate the pages and let them moulder in a drawer in the haunted attic of an abandoned house”. Hmmm, maybe we won’t go that far but in a time of tightening record marketing budgets and increasingly homogenised sleeve design, it’s worth celebrating such an original piece of work.”

MTV USA (yes, USA!) will be showing the Canal+ concert Radiohead recorded last April on June 5 at 10:30pm EST/PST.
You can now read the review of yesterday’s show at the Rock am Ring Festival in Germany.
From Capitol Records:
June 5th marks the arrival of not only Radiohead’s 5th album, Amnesiac, but the launch of the “soon to be world famous” GooglyMinotaur. Befriend him by adding his name to your instant message buddy list. He’s got the 411 on Radiohead past, present and future. But, that’s not all… he’ll challenge you with Radiohead trivia, hangman and more. Remind friends of the minotaur’s quintessential Amnesiac existence by collecting all four of his buddy icons and swapping them.
Plus, Radiohead is being crowned “Yahoo! Band of the Month” for June. The inauguration begins with an auction for front row seats to see the band on the first leg of their tour. The bidding starts with Houston and Denver. We’ll keep you updated as Yahoo puts more hot tickets on the auction block. All proceeds from the auctions go to Amnesty International.
Stan “The Man” Donwood made a post on the now grey official message board that the “rebirth” of radiohead.com will happen on Monday. {thanks to electioneer}
There will be a pretty big interview with Thom Yorke in this Sunday’s LA Times. The story will appear in the Calendar section with Thom on the cover! You can read the interview now Online. Snippet:
“To me, electronic music is the new folk music ’cause it’s that easy to use and generate,” he explains. “I find the noises I can get out of my laptop and all the gear that we’ve got in the studio far more stimulating than [conventional] rock instrumentation.”

Ed was interviewed by Dave Fanning on 2FM ( www.2fm.ie) last Thursday night. The interview lasted about 45 minutes and was conducted over the phone. Ed made some very interesting comments.
Regarding Kid A :
* “We knew that Kid A was challanging but we wanted to try out different techniques. Musically, it was really the test of the band.”
Regarding Amnesiac :
* “I got frustrated with Knives Out, we had lost the disipline to do stuff that’s straight ahead.”
* “Kid A is cold and numbed, it’s linear, but Amnesiac engages you more, there’s more emotion to it.”
Regarding the new material they have written since Amnesiac :
* “We’ve all come back with a new vigour in the past 8 weeks. The guitars are out again. The new stuff has a Crazy Horse vibe to it, it’s amazing.”
* “It’s bad for your head to make an album over a year and a half, so what were going do next is 2 three week sessions, and then finish that stuff.”

Radiohead was featured on the American TV show “Jeopardy” last Friday (May 31st). In the category “Radio-logy” the question went *something* like this: “Kid A, an album from this British band fronted by singer Thom Yorke, was nominated at the 2001 Grammy Awards for Album of the Year.” {thanks to Steve}
