Kid A mentions

An informative article appeared at Rolling Stone regarding the recording of the new album. “After recording so much material that it can (and will) be released as two separate albums, Radiohead have finally narrowed down the track listing for their upcoming fourth outing — a ten-track album full of sweeping epics, strings, brass and even blues” – This was on July 3.

Another interesting piece has appeared at french news outlet MCM. The article states that the title for album four, Kid A, came from a list which included other potentials such as Pure As Fiction, Giant Cogs Turn and Learning to Smile. The article also mentions that the band will not embark on a world tour until the release of an “Album 5”. This article is dated July 17. Whether these album titles were actually in contention, we don’t know. We do know that Learning to Smile is the name of the new Everclear CD so maybe there was some confusion?

Kid A on Napster? No.

Last night on Napster the entire album appeared through a few users. All the correct songs, all the correct track #’s, even the hidden track at the end…. except it was a clever hoax. “Treefingers” was among the most ingenious creations, obviously the hoaxers own inpromptu jam on his mic and bongos that spanned an entire 9 minutes! This clever trick had a good number of us scrambling to download as fast as we possibly could – all to find we’d been had!

More Kid A cover rumors

According to someone who has seen the cover for Kid A, the art is composed of white mountains with sharp peaks and blue shadows. The mountains are transparent and there appears to be a city inside the base. Behind the mountains is the sky, which is black with three small red clouds.

Album information about PJ Harvey’s new release, entitled Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea, were announced today. The album, Harvey’s sixth LP, will be released on October 23 and will feature Thom Yorke as a guest vocalist on a duet called “This Mess We’re In“. Harvey reportedly wrote the song with Thom in mind.

Thom will also be providing backing vocals on two other tracks from the album.

Kid A cover rumors

Slowly the details are trickling in from the grapevine about the cover for the highly-anticipated Kid A. From what we’ve heard, the cover will be plain in a similar style as the recent tour posters. Also, “Radiohead” and “Kid A” are written at the top right. Also, the booklet will not be as thick as the one from OK Computer.

Stanley commented about the artwork yesterday saying that “it’s a nightmare for record companies.

Album #5 Details

Radiohead are releasing a new album in March of 2001. According to a source close to the band, the album is pretty much done. According to another source close to the label, the songs that will appear on the follow up are more accessible (ie: closer to radio hits then anything appearing on “Kid A”) to fans and the public.

Again, nothing has been officially confirmed by the band. Stay tuned for more info…

The Meaning of Kid A?

Thom mentioned yesterday on the official message board that they named album #4 Kid A in dedication to the first human clone, which he suspects has already happened.

Other speculation is that the album was named after the children card game, Kid A in Alphabet Land.

Following Colin’s vocal support on issues like Napster and like technology, Radiohead has been added to Napster’s “Buy-Cott” campaign, encouraging consumers to buy CD’s from Napster-friendly artists and bands.

Another album?

Yes, according to Shuki Weiss, the organizer for Radiohead’s concerts in Israel. He claims that the audiences enjoyed some of the new material that isn’t included on Kid A (“Egyptian Song”, “Knives Out”, etc…) that the band are planning to release another album this February or March. According to our sources here at Green Plastic, LP5 will be more like OK Computer than Kid A.

Nothing has been confirmed by the band or their management. This is just to let you know what’s going around in rumorland.

Radiohead to play the US?

Recently a post was made to the alt.music.radiohead newsgroup by Zach Proulx detailing his adventure at Courtyard Management, Radiohead’s management group, and their studio nearby. Zach learned that the band may play two dates in the US this October – one in Los Angeles and one in New York City. The band will return a few months later to tour more extensively in the US and Canada. Again, nothing has been official announced so just keep in mind that this is just a rumor. We’ll have more once it’s available.
