EMI’s Radiohead box set pre-order

There’s been a lot of discussion about how EMI has been shady in releasing their Radiohead box set around the same time In Rainbows is being released. EMI has every right to release the collection as all the albums were recorded under their label, though it’s unfortunate that it is done without the band’s cooperation or blessing.

For those that would like to purchase it, Insound has it for pre-order and have offered our visitors a 10% discount at checkout. Just go to this link, and at checkout enter in this code: greenplastic10.

The offer expires November 28.

Ask Radiohead a question

Is there something you would like to ask Radiohead? Well, here’s your chance. We were contacted by a journalist in the UK who is interviewing Radiohead next week for the December issue of Observer Music Monthly. He would like you, the fans, to ask the questions.

Dear Green Plastic readers,

My name is Craig McLean and I’m a journalist in the UK. next week i’m interviewing Radiohead for the December issue of the Observer Music Monthly. in the spirit of In Rainbows, i would like to have the fans ask the questions.

if you have a question you’d like me to put to the band, whether related to In Rainbows or something else, please could you email it to OMM@observer.co.uk by Friday 16th November, midday GMT. please put ‘Radiohead Question’ in the subject box. please also supply your name, age, location (in the world) and – if you don’t mind – the sum you paid for In Rainbows and a one-sentence/one-line explanation as to why you paid that sum, and/or one line with your thoughts on the whole In Rainbows initiative. i will ask the band the most interesting/intriguing questions submitted by fans.

many thanks for your help, and best wishes.

official album cover

It was officially announced today that TBD Records (Radiohead’s own imprint)/ATO Records Group will be releasing the physical version of In Rainbows in the United States on January 1, 2008.

Released in download format earlier last month, In Rainbows has already received tremendous acclaim in the press. British music magazine Q wrote “In Rainbows is a brilliant work” while Rolling Stone said the album “delivers an emotional punch that proves all other rock stars owe us an apology.” New York magazine raved, “Radiohead has made their best music in years, maybe ever.”

The first two singles will be “Bodysnatchers” and “Jigsaw Falling in to Place”.

More information about the release as well as touring plans are to follow.

Webcast over

Picture 21.png

What an evening (or afternoon if you’re like me still at work)! Radiohead just finished up their webcast, entitled “Thumbs Down”, just a while ago. Everything went pretty smooth until the very end when the sound went out right before the band went on to perform their final song. Mel over at w.a.s.t.e. says that they are hopefully going to put it up so we can view again and this time hear it.

In case you missed it, the evening featured each one of the band members spinning their favorite tracks, mixed in with some funny little videos and live performances. Here’s the list of all the songs spun:

Burial – Near Dark
MIA – Pull Up the People
Tomas Anderson – Happy Happy
!!! – Heart of Hearts
Kings of Leon – My Party
AFD- Model Apprentice
Jorge Ben – Take It Easy My Brother Charlie
Les Baxter – The Ancient Galleon
Kenny Rogers – Just Dropped In
Iggy Pop – Nightclubbin’
Squarepusher – My Red Hot Car
Bauhaus – Bella Lugosi’s Dead
Iron and Wine – Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car
Bonnie Prince Billy – Lessons from What’s Poor
Asian Dub Foundation – Naxalite
Ray Charles – It should’ve Been Me
Juana Molina – Micael
Fela Kuti & the Africa 70 – Alu Jon Jonki Jon
And here’s a list of the songs the band performed:
Bodysnatchers
Faust Arp (Thom and Jonny on a hill in the countryside)
The Headmaster Ritual (Smith’s cover)
Jigsaw Falling Into Place (Recorded in the studio with the band all wearing helmets with cameras attached to them)
Reckoner
Ceremony (Joy Division / New Order cover)
Unravel (Bjork cover, recorded earlier)

The band went to play a final song but the sound cut out. Unfortunately, we do not know what song it was.

Other highlights of the evening include a clip of the movie Se7en where Thom’s head is in the box (replacing Gwenyth Paltrow’s) singing “15 Step”, Ed reciting “The Burial of Sir John Moore After Corunna” by Charles Wolfe, Adam informing us that Thom is “rebranding” his image so that people don’t think he’s so “miserable”, and Stanley drawing on the chalkboard.

We hope to have video up to show you soon. It sounds as if the band will be posting it up on their site as well so those of you that missed it can see.

Webcast tonight!

That’s right folks, the real deal should be happening tonight around 9 pm GMT (that’s 4 pm ET and 1 pm PT). As you know, they have been testing things the last few days and hopefully things will go without a problem. Stanley updated DAS with the following:

www.radiohead.tv
mac os users; download flip4mac
http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_download.htm
pc users; windows media
Stanley

It’s hard to believe that it was 8 years ago when Radiohead did their first webcast, named “Amateur Night”. Ahhh, the memories.

UPDATE: Okay, apparently 9 pm is not the correct time. Either that or there are technical difficulties. Stay tuned and hopefully this party will start up soon cause why else would you be staying in front of your computer on a Friday night?
