New Radiohead Album – August 6th?

According to Amazon.co.uk it is.

I wouldn’t rely too heavily on this but it does make for some fun discussion. Also, did you see that EMI is listed as the label? Interesting….

Over at Dead Air Space, Thom’s latest post lets us know that it was an “eventful” week.

\]]
now that was a long and eventful week
sheesh
and it ain over
wakey wakey
rise and shine
its on again off again on again
watch me fall like dominoes
in pretty patterns
Thom

What made this week more eventful than others? Oh we love to look too deep in to things. It’s probably due to the LOST fever we have. Or maybe it’s because Radiohead did re-sign with EMI. Which they did. Or maybe not. Haha… ๐Ÿ˜‰

More discussion over at our message board, Mortigi Tempo.

No alarms and no excuses

Hello there… Remember this site?

First off, apologies for the lack of updates. There’s really no excuse other than personal and work lives became much more important over the last few months. 2007 should be better folks. It has to be better as this year marks 10 years of GP. Can you believe that? 10 years?! When I first started Green Plastic on my free AOL member page, I had no idea that it would of been a part of my life for this long. It’s gotten me jobs, it’s introduced me to new people, and it’s given me the opportunity to meet the band. For those that thought that I had given up on the site, fear not! While work and life have become more important to me, I will always have a place for this site. I mentioned in the last update that a redesign is in progress. That is still happening. I did tweak the older layout today as you may have noticed.

Okay, enough of that. Let me tell you what Radiohead has been doing since we last updated:

Most importantly, the band are back at work on the new album. Writing in the Dead Air Space blog last week, Thom mentioned that the band were “working on a version of 15step and rebuilding our studio in the wind.” He also suggests that if you live in the UK, that you visit http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/trident/.

Thom spoke in an interview recently saying that the new album is similar to OK Computer but “but much more terrifying.” The album should include songs like “Videotape” and “Bangers N Mash.” There’s still no date on the album release. Stay posted…

Thom Yorke’s Eraser is nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Alternative Music Album” category. He faces stiff competition from the Arctic Monkeys, The Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The 49th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for February 11, 2007 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Thom is also nominated for the “British Male Solo” award at this year’s Brit Awards. James Morrison, Jarvis Cocker, Lemar and Paolo Nutini are all nominated too. The awards take place at London’s Earls Court Arena on February 14th.

There is plenty of other news, which we’ll post up soon. In the meantime, check out this video of an interview with Thom back in October:

Radiohead news wrap-up

mm Tottenham.jpg

We can come up with a ton of excuses on why nothing has been posted here since last month. Don’t worry, we’ll spare you. A lot of effort has been put in to a redesign of the entire site so it’s not like we’ve totally neglected things.

ยป So what’s new in the world of Radiohead? Well, as you probably know, the band is back with pal Nigel Godrich recording the new album “properly” now according to Thom. There are plenty of photos of behind the scenes action in the studio over at the band’s blog Dead Air Space. One of the photos (pictured above) is of Stanley painting. He usually bunks up with the band while in the studio and designs all the album artwork while they record. Could this be a hint of the album cover?

ยป Speaking of Mr. Donwood, there is a new section on his site called “Dead Children Playing.” Nice. There will be an exhibition in Barcelona, Spain from November 26 to December 16 where paintings from Stanley and Dr. Tchock (Thom Yorke) will be displayed. For more information, check out the site.

ยป Now for something completely different. Radiohead rag dolls.

ยป Later this month, Thom will be releasing a 5 song / 2 video EP called Spitting Feathers. This looks to be a Japanese release but Amazon has it for pre-sale. Here’s the tracklist:

1. Drunkk Machine
2. A Rat’s Nest
3. Jetstream
4. Harrowdown Hill (Extended Mix)
5. Iluvya
6. Video – Harrowdown Hill
7. Video – Analyse

ยป Better late then never, right? Thanks to Justin for sending us the Radiohead pumpkin he carved for Halloween.

ยป So by visiting Green Plastic, it would be assumed that you have an interest in Radiohead. Maybe you have an interest in marching bands as well? Well then, today is your lucky day. The University of Arizona marching band is doing a 15 minute Radiohead medley this year. See for yourself! Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3.

ยป Jonny Greenwood (Happy belated Birthday btw) is up for BBC Composer of the Year for 2006. You can stream his piece “Popcorn Superhet Receiver” here.

ยป A lot of people emailed to tell us that Thom’s “Analyse” plays at the end of Christopher Nolan’s new film The Prestige. So now you know.
Ciao!

(thanks to everyone that wrote in with news)

Beck’s puppets trash Radiohead’s hotel room

beck_puppets.jpg

Cult rocker Beck was forced to apologise to British band Radiohead after his stage marionettes allegedly trashed the OK Computer stars’ hotel room. The Loser star and his band have been joined onstage at recent shows by marionettes, each representing a band member, who copy the movements of their human counterparts. The marionettes also star in a film between the end of the performance and the encore. Beck holds the puppets responsible after Radiohead found their hotel rooms trashed following the V Festival in the UK last month, where they both appeared. Beck says, “Yeah, we apologised to Radiohead for that. But, y’know – what can we do? They’re puppets.”

Today’s totally random Radiohead news story

When the band isn’t touring, news is hard to come by. With that being said, we give you this totally random Radiohead news story:

John Mayer covered Thom Yorke’s “The Eraser” in a live performance recently. Now this isn’t the first time Mayer has showed his love for Thom and Radiohead… He covered “Kid A” once which actually sounded pretty good.

Anyway, this really isn’t a cover per se… Mayer was performing a new song called “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” and around the four minute mark, he busts out with a few lines from “The Eraser.”

Check it out if you’re bored like us.
