Tonight: Atlanta

Old School
Old school

The last time we here at GP saw Radiohead in Atlanta was in 1997 and a lot has changed since then. At that time, Jonny was often seen running the lights for the opening act, and Thom didn’t have a ponytail. OK, OK, we’ll stop with the hatred toward Mr. Yorke’s current hair situation.

Tonight the band returns to Atlanta after last night’s stop in Tampa to play Philips Arena. Y’all have fun tonight now, ya hear.

Tonight: Chicago

Radiohead will be playing in the Windy City tonight at Hutchinson Field in Grant Park. Here are the times:

Gates Open: 4:00 pm
Beta Band: 6:00 pm
Kid Koala: 7:00 pm
Radiohead: 7:45 pm
Curfew: 10:00 pm (Strict)

After the show, head on over to AliveOne on 2683 N. Halsted Street. They will be throwing a “Post Party” and will have live Radiohead music and videos going on. No, the band will not be there and yes, it is for people over 21. Sorry! I may be there if the traffic isn’t bad.

The Chicago Tribune has some articles up about tonight’s show. Go here, here, or here. {thanks to Linque and Mike}

Worried about traffic tonight? We are too. Tony Gomez wrote in and let us know about some construction work that may affect you:

for the chicago show, construction is going to start at 9 p.m central time on the chicago interstate system. i’ve been personally involved before in chicago’s night time construction and it’s horrible. you can find out more @ chicagotribune.com. click on traffic. i suggest telling people to prepare for delays, and leave early. traffic will be reduced to one lane wherever possible.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution has a review and some pictures of Monday night’s show in Atlanta. {thanks to Julie, Brian, & G}

Green Plastic on Vacation
Yes, I will be heading up to Chicago shortly with a friend to see tonight’s show. Then it’s off to Toronto and Montreal. After those two concerts, I will be secluded up in New York away from technology and computers so greenplastic.com will not be updated until sometime around August 17. If I do get a chance to access the Internet, I may make a couple of news updates. 🙂

Thom the roadie
Their is an article up at Chart Attack about the Beta Band touring with Radiohead. Here’s a snippet:

When they did the first Western leg of the tour with Radiohead they were so financially destitute that their tour manager didn? have a cellphone. This left publicists stranded when trying to contact them for interviews. They couldn? afford roadies either and MacLean said that problem was solved by, “Radiohead help us out with roading. They move a lot of our equipment on stage for us. Thom Yorke carries Steve? [Mason] guitar on stage every night for him. They?e quite muscly. You wouldn? think it, but Thom Yorke? a tough wee guy.”

Radiohead: Join the Band!
Now, with synthesized support for the Musicians’ Assistance Program (MAP), these post-punk, prog-rockers are offering an evening fit for Kid A! The band wants AllStarCharity.com’s winning bidder (and guest) to attend their August 20th concert in Los Angeles, and then join them for the After-Party! Better bid before you get stopped by the Karma Police! Log onto http://www.allstarcharity.com from July 23-August 7 to meet the band! 100% of the winning bid will go directly to the Musicians’ Assistance Program (MAP), an organization that assists the music industry in providing solutions to and prevention of drug and alcohol addiction within its community. http://store.yahoo.com/allstarcharity/lot01137.html

Radiohead ends their tour with some “true love”

The band played their final show of the North American first-leg tour last night in Santa Barbara, CA. Along with a slightly different setlist from recent shows, the band surprised the audience with the much loved “True Love Waits”, which Thom performed by himself at the start of the first encore. You can see last night’s setlist and reviews here and the night before’s here.

Radiohead will return to the US on July 30 to start their second-leg in Atlanta… But that comes after the much anticipated show in Oxford on July 7. Check the tour dates page for more info.
