News for July 5, 2000

New Album info confirmed!!!!

Well, the time has finally come when we can actually start calling the upcoming release from Radiohead the actual title instead of “new album” or “LP4”. The band have officially released the title along with the tracklisting on their official website. The album will be called Kid A, as rumored earlier, and will be released on October 2, 2000. The release dates will be different in some other countries, so stay tuned for that info as it comes in. Two new songs in the tracklist, “Treefingers” and “Idioteque“, have not been played live yet.

Okay, here’s the tracklist:

01. Everything In Its Right Place
02. Kid A
03. The National Anthem
04. How To Disappear Completely
05. Treefingers
06. Optimistic
07. In Limbo
08. Idioteque
09. Morning Bell
10. Motion Picture Soundtrack

You may notice that some tracks like “Knives Out” and “Dollars and Cents” are not on the list. These and all the other new songs will be released in the near future by the band in the form of b-sides, EP’s, or possibly another album. Once anything is known, we’ll have it here.

You can read the official release at www.radiohead.com here
or you can view a NME article here.

Dancer in the Dark

As reported earlier, Thom Yorke has sung a duet with Bjork on a song on the soundtrack to Dancer in the Dark, a musical/film starring the Icelandic singer. The soundtrack, now titled Selmasongs, will be released in September and the song that Thom sings on is “I’ve Seen it All.” Though Thom does not appear in the movie, his voice will be replacing the actor who does sing with Bjork in the film.

Bjork talks Thom Yorke duet

[from Q Online]:
Bjork discussed her much-anticipated collaboration with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke during a web chat on ArtistDirect.com on Thursday (22nd June), describing the experience of working with Yorke as a ‘dream’. Entitled I’ve Seen It All, the song is to appear on the soundtrack for Lars Von Trier’s Palm d’Or winning film Dancer In The Dark (out in September), which stars Bjork and Catherine Deneuve.

“It was a gorgeous experience,” said, the Icelander. “We spent four days in Spain, singing a few hours a day. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to blend my voice with his. That was lovely!” She also revealed that the working title for her album is Domestica, which is also being at the Spanish hillside studio where Post was recorded. Asked about the new material she enthused, “It’s gone really well…it feels very exciting. It’s definitely a place I’ve never been in before.” In the mean time a live album is planned for a December release, recorded last year in London, while Radiohead make their first live appearance in the UK at Scott Walker’s Meltdown on Sunday (1st July).

Bjork Slots Soundtrack Date, Chat

“Selmasongs,” Bjork’s soundtrack to “Dancer In The Dark,” the award-winning film in which she also stars, is now set for release on September 19.

Songs from the album will be culled entirely from music and dialogue in the film and, according to Bjork’s spokesperson at Elektra Records, “will be more like a Broadway cast recording than a soundtrack.”

“I’ve Scene It All,” a duet between Bjork and Radiohead singer Thom Yorke, also will be included on the soundtrack.

Last month, Bjork earned Best Actress honors at the Cannes Film Festival for her portrayal of “Selma,” a Czech immigrant living in the United States who has a hereditary disease which causes blindness. The musical, which was helmed by “Breaking The Waves” director Lars Von Trier, also won the festival’s Palme D’Or for best film.

“Dancer In The Dark” is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters in the fall.

Bjork will discuss the soundtrack and other topics during a live Web chat on the ARTISTdirect network (www.artistdirect.com) on Thursday at 4 p.m. (ET).

Also, head on over here to read an article about the upcoming soundtrack. Here’s a snippet of the good stuff:

Here is a snippet from a recent interview that Les Inrockuptibles, a French Magazine, had with Bjork:

Les Inrocks : In this movie, you sing in duet with Thom Yorke, don’t you?

Bjork : I always wanted to collaborate with him, to mix our voices… so, Selma (Bjñrk’s character) sings with Thom Yorke in her dreams. These kind of things never happen in the real life. But in a dream, you can sing with Thom Yorke.
(Many thanks to our friend, Lunargirl)

In case you’ve been out of the loop, Thom is doing a duet with Bjork for her new film, Dancer in the Dark.
