Hello there… Remember this site?
First off, apologies for the lack of updates. There’s really no excuse other than personal and work lives became much more important over the last few months. 2007 should be better folks. It has to be better as this year marks 10 years of GP. Can you believe that? 10 years?! When I first started Green Plastic on my free AOL member page, I had no idea that it would of been a part of my life for this long. It’s gotten me jobs, it’s introduced me to new people, and it’s given me the opportunity to meet the band. For those that thought that I had given up on the site, fear not! While work and life have become more important to me, I will always have a place for this site. I mentioned in the last update that a redesign is in progress. That is still happening. I did tweak the older layout today as you may have noticed.
Okay, enough of that. Let me tell you what Radiohead has been doing since we last updated:
Most importantly, the band are back at work on the new album. Writing in the Dead Air Space blog last week, Thom mentioned that the band were “working on a version of 15step and rebuilding our studio in the wind.” He also suggests that if you live in the UK, that you visit http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/trident/.
Thom spoke in an interview recently saying that the new album is similar to OK Computer but “but much more terrifying.” The album should include songs like “Videotape” and “Bangers N Mash.” There’s still no date on the album release. Stay posted…
Thom Yorke’s Eraser is nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Alternative Music Album” category. He faces stiff competition from the Arctic Monkeys, The Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. The 49th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for February 11, 2007 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Thom is also nominated for the “British Male Solo” award at this year’s Brit Awards. James Morrison, Jarvis Cocker, Lemar and Paolo Nutini are all nominated too. The awards take place at London’s Earls Court Arena on February 14th.
There is plenty of other news, which we’ll post up soon. In the meantime, check out this video of an interview with Thom back in October:
(thanks to everyone that wrote in concerned about the status of the site. all is well)
News for January 22, 1998
from spin online:
Radiohead Nixes Brit Awards
Radiohead’s Thom Yorke is not boycotting the upcoming Brit Awards as it’s been widely reported. Although Yorke did express his disgust with attending last year’s Brits, telling The New York Post “I thought, that’s it. That’s the last time we ever go to anything like that.” The band will not be attending because of tour commitments in Australia and New Zealand. Radiohead have not committed to playing the Grammy Awards on February 25th although rumor has it that the band’s label, Capitol, and the Grammy organization are very eager for the nominees to attend and perform.
the radiohead tour video that was filmed by Grant Gee, the camera man, is scheduled for release in CD and Video stores March 24, 1998. this is not official so it might change.
also floating around the rumor cloud, radiohead’s upcoming US tour will begin on March 27, 1998 with bjork. i don’t know the location yet, so please don’t email me asking. once i know anymore info, i’ll post it here immediately. the band is currently touring japan and will be in australia in february.
MTV UK will be showing 4 hours of radiohead (in concert, videos, interviews, etc…) on february 7, 1998 at 7:30pm.
radiohead’s chart position on the billboard 200 improved again this week. they jumped from last week’s 76 to this week’s 70.
