Colin Greenwood Kid A Radiohead tour

News for June 14, 2000

Radiohead have been forced to scrap their gig tonight (June 14th) at the THEATRE ANTIQUE DE VAISON LA ROMANE in the South Of France after torrential rain made conditions impossible for them to play.

Yesterday’s gig, the band’s first of the Millennium, was played in the Theatre Antique D’Arles, a Roman amphitheater.

A spokesperson for the band told nme.com: “The whole site is now flooded and there’s lightning and everything. The band had to pull the whole thing for safety reasons. They’re trying to reschedule the date as we speak.”

As exclusively revealed by nme.com yesterday, the band debuted seven new songs at their show in Arles last night – though even then, there were worries that rain might stop play, though the weather turned clement just before the band took to the stage.

Here are some more quick notes about last night’s show in Arles, France:

Right before Radiohead came on stage, the rain was so heavy that the lights went out and the band played without lighting.
For the new song “In Limbo”, Ed plays keyboards.

“Everything In It’s Right Place”, another new song, had Jonny using a touch screen sampler.

We will bring you information as it comes in about tonight’s show in Vaison La Romaine, France, later today! Stay tuned!

In other news…
It is rumored that Radiohead maybe adding another tent date to their European tour this fall, this time at the Punchestown Racecourse in Dublin, Ireland, on October 7.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, so stay tuned!

Here’s an article from Rollingstone.com:
Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood has revealed to Belgium’s Humo and Holland’s Oor magazines that the band has recorded enough songs with producer Nigel Godrich to release two albums. The first, which will have about ten to eleven tracks, is expected to come out on schedule this fall, followed by a second a year later. Though Radiohead had about thirty songs in the can, they nixed the idea of a double album because “We want to avoid the classic rock & roll traps,” Greenwood told Humo. “Even the best double albums . . . would have been even better if half the songs had been deleted . . . If the White Album had been one single album, no one would dare say Sgt. Pepper’s is the best Beatles record.” As of yet, the upcoming fourth album remains untitled. Song titles include “How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found,” “Kid A,” “Everything in Its Right Place,” “Everyone (National Anthem),” “Motion Picture Soundtrack,” “Idioteque,” “Morning Bell” and “Nothing to Fear (Egyptian Song).” Two tracks feature an extensive string section, one track includes backing by a jazz band and another, with the aid of ProTools, has Thom Yorke singing backwards. Now all they have to do is figure out how to pull that last one off live . . .

Colin confirms tracks for new album
From At Ease:
Colin Greenwood was interviewed by Dutch music magazine ‘OOR’. Here are some quotes concerning the new album. “…But I think I’m pleased with the new album. “If you like songs like Exit Music and Airbag, but don’t like Electioneering, you will probably like the new album. I thought that Electioneering was the weakest track of OK Computer.

Colin confirmed that the following songs will make it to the album, which won’t be longer than 45 minutes, as the band want to release their other material soon after the release of album #4: (keep in mind, this is not the tracklist!)

Here’s some more info about yesterday’s interview with Jonny and Colin at German radio station Einslive:

Jonny and Colin were asked if the new album will sound like OK Computer and they replied that it would, but is much “shorter” and that OKC was a “typical nineties album.” The album is completely finished except for the title, and that should be decided this week because the album is going to the label next week.
The guy who interviewed them said Ed visited Einslive 3 years ago and said something like every album was a snapshot of the band. Jonny said at the moment the “snapshot” was underexposed.

Tour dates in Denmark
The dates that the Ekstra Bladet, a Danish newspaper, wrote last week are wrong. Two shows will be happening in Copenhagen on September 7th and 8th, according to another Danish newspaper, Berlingske Tidende.

The band will be setting their tent up on a football field beside Valby-Hallen. According to the newspaper, these will be the only dates in Scandinavia, so hurry up and get your tickets cause they’re on sale now at www.billetnet.dk,by phone at 70 15 65 65, or at Danish post offices. The tickets cost 300 DKK.

Announcement on Monday
The NME are saying that the UK dates this Fall will be announced this Monday, June 12, on Jo Whiley’s Radio 1 show.

Humo interview
Jonny And Colin were also interviewed by a Belgian magazine called Humo in which Jonny said that they are going to tour before the release of the album because they want to escape from the whole record-single-album-tour life which they have been doing for the last 3 albums. He also said that they will probably not release a single before the album hits the shelves this Fall. Colin also mentioned that they are not going to tour for very long because they want to have another album released by September 2001.

According to Jonny, the 2 songs they did along with other musicians, the one with the jazz band and the one with the small orchestra, will definitely be on the album but that they haven’t got any idea yet on how to do them live.

When asked about bands that sound like Radiohead, Colin replied, “Muse, Travis, … I don’t really know them, but I’ve heard of them. I think it’s very weird. We have never ever tried to create our own sound, we’ve always just played.

Those bands know how you can make music that sounds like Radiohead, so apparently they play better than we do, but is that what it’s about? I don’t think so. A couple of days ago I saw Muse on MTV, and I really got scared. They really try to look like us, but they didn’t seem to enjoy it very much. Those guys really need to cheer up, and quick. Apparently they’ve seen ‘Meeting People Is Easy’ one time too much (laughs).”

Lot’s of things going on with Radiohead… The band has been doing interviews and press conferences for the last week and today Jonny and Colin appeared on the German radio station Einslive. They talked about Muse, claiming that they had never heard their music, which is surprising because Muse is often compared to Radiohead.

Jonny and Colin also talked about the upcoming “tent tour” and mentioned that the album was finished and will be released in October. If anyone has anymore info about the interview, give me an email.

Meanwhile, tomorrow an interview with Colin will be aired on Radio21, a Belgian radio station. Colin originally gave the interview on May 29, 2000. The interview will air at 6 pm (GMT +1) on the show “5 Heures”. [from followmearound.com]

Another interview featuring Colin and Jonny appears in the newest issue of Humo, a Belgian magazine. The two talk about tour plans and some of the strange methods of which they used to record the new album. If anyone has this issue and is willing to translate the article, email me.

Thom is interviewed by The Frame. Go and read it at www.theframe.fsbusiness.co.uk/radiohead.html.

News for May 30, 2000

Colin and Jonny were in Holland yesterday to be interviewed on 3FM radio. You can listen to the interview in RealAudio over at Planet Telex.

During the interview, words like “dark” were used to described the new album. They recorded close to 40 songs and will have to choose from those. Jonny then went on to say that “if you like things like ‘Exit Music (for a film)’, ‘Talk Show Host’ and ‘Airbag’ you will like the new album, because it’s got songs similar to that. And also some experimentation with electronic music as well that we’re sort of getting into.”

When asked why they were bringing their own tent, Jonny said, “We don’t want to play in those venues that are designed for sport and have Coca-Cola adverts everywhere. That’s not what we want to do, really.”

The band were also asked why they weren’t going to play the Pinkpop and other festivals to which Colin replied, “The important reason for not playing Pinkpop is that we’ve already played Glastonbury before the release of OK Computer and we just don’t repeat what we’ve done before and which is playing a big festival before the release of an album.”
Jonny mentioned that they had about 7 possible titles that they are considering for the new album.

During the interview, it was confirmed that Radiohead will be playing in Holland on September 15, 2000. They will be playing at the Goffertpark, in Nijmegen. Tickets are on sale now at www.theatre.nl.

Meanwhile, over in Spain…
While Jonny and Colin were in Holland, Ed and Phil were giving a press conference in Spain. Ed said that they were not going to reveal any information about the new album early, but could say that their decision to use a string orchestra for songs like “Dollars and Cents” and “How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found” and an 8-piece brass ensemble was because “we don’t want to repeat ourselves because we find it boring.”

For more information on this press conference, head on over to IndyRock.

New album to be released in October?

Music365 is reporting that they have received confirmation from a Radiohead spokesperson that the new album will be released this October. Go and read the article at http://www.music365.com/shownews.php3?SID=35359.

News for February 11, 2000

What a night! The band put on their second webcast last night and left us all wanting more! At around 6pm Eastern time, Radiohead set up their turntables and video cameras and partied for almost 4 hours!

The evening was full of excitement. Ed, Phil, and Colin took turns playing DJ, while the others danced around (Go Mel!) and sat by the fire outside. The highlight of the evening was definitely the introduction of three new songs. Thom, Jonny, and Phil had a little jam session which was incredible, called “There there”, by Thom. That was followed later by Jonny and his electronic toys.

The band got together at the end and played another new song with Ed on vocals, even though he wasn’t really singing. “Ed was pulling wurds out of the magic top hat which i use,” said Thom.
