Vote Killerbear?

Vote Killerbear? If you visit the city of Nottingham (UK) you may see little posters of the Radiohead bear with the words “Vote Killerbear”. They are apparently in a lot of locations as documented here. What are they for? Who put them up? Did the band have something to do with it? These are questions that we can’t answer. Maybe it has something to do with the upcoming elections on June 7.

The NME has given Amnesiac an 8 of 10 rating. {thanks to Chris}

The setlist and review for last night’s show in Verona, Italy is here.

Thom, Colin, and Jonny appeared on Mark and Lard yesterday live from Verona. Thom and Colin played Wheel of Misfortune in which Thom confessed that they had picked “The Tourist” for the encore in France only to discover that they couldn’t remember (talk about Amnesia!) the last chord to the the song! They discovered this about 2 minutes before they went on stage and couldn’t locate a copy of OK Computer so the song was ditched. You can listen to the Thom and Colin’s Wheel of Misfortune and the Yes No Game with Thom at the Mark and Lard Site. The full interview should be available Online soon. {thanks to Paul}

To hear Thom’s solo version of “Pyramid Song” from the same show, check out http://www.kornmuse.fr.st. Apparently Jonng was itching to play drums with a Yamaha Beatbox or something… 🙂 {thanks to Titof}

According to Pitchforkmedia, a “Knives Out” EP will be released in the UK on July 24. {thanks to Keegan}

Two local bands, The Rock Of Travolta and Hester Thrale have been added to the support list at the July 7 Radiohead “hometown” show in Oxford. {thanks to Alex and Andrew}

Thom is interviewed in the latest edition of the Dutch magazine OOR.

The PinkPop festival, in which Radiohead is taking part of, will be available to watch and listen to Online at this Site on Monday, June 4. {thanks to Willem}

Oakenfold Remixes “Street Spirit”

Dance music legend Paul Oakenfold remixed Radiohead’s “Street Spirit” last Thursday night while spinning in Manhattan’s Roseland Ballroom. Here’s is a clip from a recent Sonicnet article:

“The highest and most telling point in Oakenfold’s set came as the diminutive but dapper Brit dropped an intense, pounding remix of Radiohead’s “Street Spirit” into the mix, which in its original form is one of the band’s softest and sparsest songs. The move worked the crowd into a wild frenzy. So much for Thom Yorke’s introspection, they were in the hands of a DJ tonight.”

You can read the full article here.

Net the Debt Day

Thom updated his page at the official site again with this message:

“visit http://www.dropthedebt.org
tell all your friends/ websites etcetera to visit dropthedebt this friday 21st of july until then please carry on passing the word about the e-mail petition to the G7.
thankyou”

This is from the Drop the Debt page:

“In 1998 and 1999, Jubilee 2000 held massive, peaceful human chains around the meetings of the G7, over 50,000 people calling on the G7 leaders to drop the debt. This year the world leaders have found an island hideaway far from anywhere in Okinawa, Japan, to try and escape from Jubilee 2000’s demands. So this time, we will surround them on-line, linking up in a virtual human chain around the world which the leaders cannot ignore. On this site, you can link up with what’s happening in Okinawa and the leaders’ response to your campaigning. We are going to invite Bill Clinton and his G7 colleagues to come on this site on July 21, and tell you what they are going to do to drop the debt.”

Also, Jonny’s page was updated.

True Love Waits

At Ease has a “True Love Waits” performed in Tel Aviv on mp3 and real audio! Go and listen! What a great song!

Speaking of “True Love Waits”, you may remember a link put up last week to a video of Thom performing “True Love Waits” in Belgium in 1995. Nico, the guy who put up that video, had some interesting points that I thought I would share:

“We all know that the song was played for the first time in Belgium in 1995 and throughout the years the song has flown all around the Internet. We had confirmation on July 6 that this song was not going to be on the new album, right? The day after, I put a video of the song that was played in 1995 on my website and the day after that, there was a link to my site on almost every major Radiohead website (the sites that Radiohead themselves recommend to have the latest news, meaning Planet Telex, Green Plastic, etc…).

The day after that, my server exploded after receiving about 15,000 people wanting to download the video…

The day after that, the song was played by Thom in Israel in front of an audience for the first time in 5 years…

So is this a coincidence? I say Fuck No!”

Regardless as to what prompted Thom to play “True Love Waits”, the song is incredible and we can only hope that this song will make it on a future album or as a b-side! Please!

Sam from okcomputer.ctw.cc has encoded the entire concert from Arles, France onto mp3 and has it up on his website. Go and get them!

Though it was nobody’s fault but Mother Nature’s, Thom Yorke appeared on the official Radiohead message board and apologized for last night’s cancellation. “that was hard work getting it together. we’ve had a shit day. can you pass on apologies to all who came a long way for today show. it was just too dangerous with the thundr and lightning very very frightning. im off to sleep goodnight.”

Ed also apologized in his diary, saying,”we had to cancel the vaison show…………so firstly apologies to everyone who had tickets and were looking forward to the gig……we’d even got the set list done with different new songs from last night and soundchecked them……….and what an amazing place…..a roman theatre like last night in arles. the freak rain was of course to blame…….the stage had a good three inches of the stuff from a twenty minute downpour and with another storm forecast for 9.30pm and alot of the equipment still damaged from last night’s storm in arles the decision was made to pull the show………somehow we got away with it last night but today just seemed as if it wasn’t meant to be…….sorry again to those in vaison …..”
Unfortunately, the show will not be rescheduled and fans who bought tickets will have to get their refunds from the point of sale. If you bought tickets through w.a.s.t.e., email them at stuff@waste.uk.com.

Tonight… Barcelona!

Even if torrential rains make it nasty in Barcelona tonight, fans don’t have to worry about any cancellations because Radiohead will be performing with a roof overhead. We will bring you news about this show later in the day.

Oh, pictures!

Head on over to www.radiohead.com/jonny.html to see pictures that Thom took of the crowd at their first show the other night in Arles, France.

OK Computer was “Empire Strikes Back”
An interview that Jonny and Colin did with German Television Viva Zewi last week aired yesterday. In the interview, which is featured on the show Fast Forward, the brothers were asked how they would describe the new album and Jonny said that they always thought OK Computer was the “Empire Strikes Back” compared to The Bends, which was “Star Wars.” Then Jonny added, “But that would mean that the new album is the ‘Phantom Menace’, but that film was pants so we’ll have to think of another film…”

Colin mentioned that if you liked OK Computer, you will like the new album.

The interviewer then asked about the use of stings, in which Jonny replied that he had made a mess of things cause he could not make eye contact with the string players. Jonny worked on the strings for 3 months and even played the viola himself to see what it would sound like before he had others play it.

News for June 12, 2000

Jonny made an appearance at the official Radiohead message board yesterday and was asked about how big the tent would be that they will be bringing on tour with them this Fall. “We can get 10000 in, apparently,” Jonny said,”but it feels tiny. The reading festival tent in about 8000, if you know it, so it’s not much bigger.”

PJ Harvey and Thom Yorke
As we reported last month, it is rumored that PJ Harvey and Thom Yorke will be singing together on a track from Harvey’s new album, scheduled to be released later this year. NME is reporting that more credibility has been given to the rumor, and quotes a PJ Harvey site by saying that “there may just be some truth” to the rumor.

Stay tuned, as always, for more on this topic!

News for June 7, 2000

Here’s some more info about yesterday’s interview with Jonny and Colin at German radio station Einslive:

Jonny and Colin were asked if the new album will sound like OK Computer and they replied that it would, but is much “shorter” and that OKC was a “typical nineties album.” The album is completely finished except for the title, and that should be decided this week because the album is going to the label next week.
The guy who interviewed them said Ed visited Einslive 3 years ago and said something like every album was a snapshot of the band. Jonny said at the moment the “snapshot” was underexposed.

[many thanks to Luisa and Kersten]

Tour dates in Denmark
The dates that the Ekstra Bladet, a Danish newspaper, wrote last week are wrong. Two shows will be happening in Copenhagen on September 7th and 8th, according to another Danish newspaper, Berlingske Tidende.

The band will be setting their tent up on a football field beside Valby-Hallen. According to the newspaper, these will be the only dates in Scandinavia, so hurry up and get your tickets cause they’re on sale now at www.billetnet.dk,by phone at 70 15 65 65, or at Danish post offices. The tickets cost 300 DKK.
[thanks to Tom and Martin]
Announcement on Monday
The NME are saying that the UK dates this Fall will be announced this Monday, June 12, on Jo Whiley’s Radio 1 show.
[thanks to Xavier]
Humo interview
Jonny And Colin were also interviewed by a Belgian magazine called Humo in which Jonny said that they are going to tour before the release of the album because they want to escape from the whole record-single-album-tour life which they have been doing for the last 3 albums. He also said that they will probably not release a single before the album hits the shelves this Fall. Colin also mentioned that they are not going to tour for very long because they want to have another album released by September 2001.

According to Jonny, the 2 songs they did along with other musicians, the one with the jazz band and the one with the small orchestra, will definitely be on the album but that they haven’t got any idea yet on how to do them live.

When asked about bands that sound like Radiohead, Colin replied, “Muse, Travis, … I don’t really know them, but I’ve heard of them. I think it’s very weird. We have never ever tried to create our own sound, we’ve always just played.

Those bands know how you can make music that sounds like Radiohead, so apparently they play better than we do, but is that what it’s about? I don’t think so. A couple of days ago I saw Muse on MTV, and I really got scared. They really try to look like us, but they didn’t seem to enjoy it very much. Those guys really need to cheer up, and quick. Apparently they’ve seen ‘Meeting People Is Easy’ one time too much (laughs).”
