Liam Gallagher hates the new Radiohead album

Liam Gallagher

Surprise surprise, Liam Gallagher is mouthing off about the new Radiohead album, The King of Limbs. Our friends at the Quietus recently sat down with the former Oasis frontman to talk about his new band, Beady Eye, and the subject of Radiohead was brought up.

“We just like what we do. I heard that fucking Radiohead record and I just go, ‘What?!’ I like to think that what we do, we do fucking well. Them writing a song about a fucking tree? Give me a fucking break! A thousand year old tree? Go fuck yourself! You’d have thought he’d have written a song about a modern tree or one that was planted last week. You know what I mean?”

Whatever.

Rogue fan attacks Noel Gallagher on stage

How much you want to bet this is a Radiohead fan? While we have no proof, with all the smack Noel has been spewing about Radiohead and his brother calling their fans “boring and ugly“, we wouldn’t be surprised. Hehe..

Regardless, Noel got pushed off stage last night by a rogue fan. Video is below:

In all seriousness, we’re joking about it being a Radiohead fan and hope that Noel recovers quickly. It absolutely has to be scary to be on stage and get attacked out of nowhere.

Oasis, Jamiroquai to follow Radiohead

Some of the music industry’s biggest names are considering offering their music free online following the success of the experiment by the band Radiohead to let fans download their new album without charge.

The band’s website topped the chart of music websites with an 11-fold increase in internet hits after the announcement, according to internet monitoring agency HitWise.

Now Jamiroquai and Oasis, two major names that are not contracted to a record labels, are rumoured to be considering following Radiohead by offering work for free, according to industry sources.

Radiohead refuse to reveal how many fans have pre-ordered their seventh album, In Rainbows, but figures from HitWise show the move pushed the site up from number 43 to the top slot for music websites in the UK.

Google say that searches for Radiohead have increased tenfold this week as fans log on to the band’s site, with the majority – according to the band’s spokesman – spurning the opportunity to download the album for as little as 45 pence and instead signing up for the £40 box set, which includes vinyl records, CD and artwork.

Liam and Noel

Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis both love talking about Radiohead. The May issue of Q magazine has an interview with brothers and of course, the subject of Radiohead was brought up:

WERE YOU GOOD HUSBANDS?
N: I get unfairly singled out about marriage. No one asks Thom Yorke about his marriage.
L: She’s probably a miserable bastard like him. The miserable ginger dwarf and his miserable wife. Who wants to know about them?
RADIOHEAD AREN’T THAT BAD THOUGH, ARE THEY?
N: No! Radiohead don’t want anyone else involved in that little thing they’ve got going on. Their thing is: Don’t look at us. Don’t photo us. Don’t interview us. In fact, don’t listen to our music. Where does it end? It ends with Thom Yorke saying I’ve written the most fantastic piece of classical music ever but the only way you can hear it is by jamming a jack plug into my ear.
L: They’re a band of Morris dancers.
N: They seem so pissed off being in a band. That doesn’t inspire kids to pick up guitars. They’re moaning about the marketing, the videos. If i was 15 I’d think, I’ll get a job down the car wash. Whereas us, we love it. It’s the best job in the world. Granted, some of the stuff on Amnesiac is brilliant. The Bends is the bollocks. Karma Police is mega. But they don’t want people to like their music so they can go fuck themselves.
YOU’VE MADE IT CLEAR YOU’RE UNIMPRESSED WITH THE CURRENT STATE OF ROCK MUSIC. IS THE NEW ALBUM GOING TO SHAKE THINGS UP?
N: We don’t need to prove anything to anyone. At the end of the day you can go to a Radiohead show and stroke your fucking beard and watch the miserable cunt complaining, or come see us, put your arm around your best mate and have it.
L: What do you want for fuck’s sake? Tell me what you want from us.
PROGRESS?
N: Is anyone making mind-bending music anymore? We’re a rock’n’roll group. We’re not fucking Blur.
L: We’re not fucking wizards. We’re four blokes from Manchester who happen to be in the BEST BAND IN THE WORLD.
N: We’re all heathens. Few of us practise a faith but we’re after something. I’m after something. I’ll say no more than that in case I start to sound like Thom Yorke.
L: And that my friend is the day this band is over.

Liam and Richard D. James speak up about Radiohead

In a recent interview with the NME, Liam Gallagher of Oasis spoke about the band’s upcoming album:

“It’s punk rock. And moody. And well done, proper – none of that weird fooking Radiohead bollocks, none of that indie fooking rubbish. It’s the Pistols and the Beatles, man – it’s us.”

In a seperate interview with www.groove.de, Richard D. James (aka Aphex Twin) brought up Radiohead:

(Translated from German)
Your music was very influential. One of the more outstanding artists, who said they were influenced by your music, is Radiohead. Did you listen to one of their latest Albums ?Kid A? or ?Amnesiac??
I don?t like them. I heard about five or six songs and considered them really crappy!
Crappy?
Yeah! Predictable and crappy! I mean, I?m simply comparing them to my favourite music, and in comparison to that it?s horrible! Compared with all that shitty boring R&B-stuff it?s probably ok. Compared to these teenage punk bands ? or whatever you?re supposed to call them – , which consider themselves being really anarchistic and stuff, they?re probably great! If one is suspended solely to things like that and then comes Radiohead?you probably think they?re geniuses!

Kid A Radiohead Thom Yorke tour

News for June 30, 1999

From Dotmusic:

Oasis and Radiohead to headline Glastonbury next year?

During a conversation with dotmusic at this year’s Glastonbury festival, founder Michael Eavis hinted that Glastonbury 2000 could see an Oasis and Radiohead double-bill. Eavis told us, “the two best bands in the world at the moment are not playing this weekend÷which are Oasis and Radiohead.” We asked him if he had looked into booking them for next year and he replied: “Speaks for itself doesn’t it?”

dotmusic contacted Creation Records for confirmation of an Oasis booking but were informed that the band have not yet finished recording their new album and that their live commitments could not yet be confirmed. Likewise we were informed by a Radiohead spokeswoman that the band are, “in the middle of recording the new album and I’ve no idea when it will be finished Ò you don’t rush these guys, there’s no point.”

Radiohead’s Thom Yorke was spotted at the festival, casually wandering amongst the crowds Ò obviously more interested in the acts than many of the VIPs who preferred to watch Keith Allen perform karaoke back stage. With both bands currently working on material likely to be released early next year, timing would be near perfect and we think Michael Eavis will get his dream line-up.

The band had a pretty miserable experience at the 1997 Glastonbury Festival when half of the equipment quit working and all the blinding lights shining towards them. Maybe Radiohead will give it another chance
