Ed and Phil with Neil Finn

What a pleasant surprise! Ed and Phil joined Neil Finn earlier tonight on stage at his show in Manchester. Ed played with Finn for six songs while Phil only played drums for two, though he did play the tamborine for the rest. What’s really cool is both Phil and Ed provided backing vocals for Finn’s final number. Phil, we always knew you could sing!! 🙂

There is a great interview in the very first issue of Blender, a new music magazine put out by Maxim. Thom answers questions sent in by fans and even talks about Noah, his son. Check your local newstand.

NME Article

Leave it to the NME to try and analyze each and every comment Thom makes on his web page at the official Radiohead site. Today the NME put an article here describing the latest posting that Thom made, in which he quotes a passage from a book by Malcom Lowry called “Under the Volcano.” The article then goes to question if road fatigue is the reason for Thom going “mad”.
The band have actually been having a good time on the road, and despite any reports or articles, they seem to be enjoying themselves. Phil made a brief appearance on the official message board the other day and said that it was “our best tour yet, i think – well the most enjoyable anyway.

You can read the NME article here.

Another Tour Date!

Because the September 11 show in Werchter, Belgium is nearly sold out, the band have decided to stay an extra day and play again on September 12 at the same location. Tickets can be purchased here.

Sigur Ros opening for Radiohead UK dates?

Some of you may have heard that the very talented band from Iceland, Sigur Ros, might open up for Radiohead this Fall during the tent tour. This is from the website www.sigur-ros.co.uk:

as far as the radiohead tour rumours are concerned, there is a chance that the band will support on the uk dates. they haven’t had an official offer from radiohead yet but are aware of their interest. georg said that they probably can’t play on the european dates due to prior commitments.

Regardless, definitely check out this band!

Paris Metro Posters
The first concert posters have been put in some stations of Paris’ metro/underground/tube. They advertise the September bigtop concerts in paris and contain images from www.radiohead.com, along with two scary drawings (flying testbears over the city and scared citizens, and a giant man starbing) and other small text and phone lines for the FNAC and radiohead.com. It’s made of two similar parts, the only difference between the two being the drawings and the copyright: one is “poster by Stanley and Tchock”, the other by “Tchock and Stanley”. Concerts in Denmark
In the June 4 issue, the Danish newspaper, Ekstra Bladet, wrote that Radiohead will be playing two shows in Denmark on September 8th and 9th, 2000. As with the other concerts planned for this time, Radiohead will be bringing their own venue… in the form of a giant circus-type tent. (See May 26 news)
They also stated that the band would be making an appearance in Denmark tomorrow, June 6, 2000. Stay tuned….

Colin Greenwood Ed O'Brien Jonny Greenwood Kid A Phil Selway Radiohead

News for May 30, 2000

Colin and Jonny were in Holland yesterday to be interviewed on 3FM radio. You can listen to the interview in RealAudio over at Planet Telex.

During the interview, words like “dark” were used to described the new album. They recorded close to 40 songs and will have to choose from those. Jonny then went on to say that “if you like things like ‘Exit Music (for a film)’, ‘Talk Show Host’ and ‘Airbag’ you will like the new album, because it’s got songs similar to that. And also some experimentation with electronic music as well that we’re sort of getting into.”

When asked why they were bringing their own tent, Jonny said, “We don’t want to play in those venues that are designed for sport and have Coca-Cola adverts everywhere. That’s not what we want to do, really.”

The band were also asked why they weren’t going to play the Pinkpop and other festivals to which Colin replied, “The important reason for not playing Pinkpop is that we’ve already played Glastonbury before the release of OK Computer and we just don’t repeat what we’ve done before and which is playing a big festival before the release of an album.”
Jonny mentioned that they had about 7 possible titles that they are considering for the new album.

During the interview, it was confirmed that Radiohead will be playing in Holland on September 15, 2000. They will be playing at the Goffertpark, in Nijmegen. Tickets are on sale now at www.theatre.nl.

Meanwhile, over in Spain…
While Jonny and Colin were in Holland, Ed and Phil were giving a press conference in Spain. Ed said that they were not going to reveal any information about the new album early, but could say that their decision to use a string orchestra for songs like “Dollars and Cents” and “How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found” and an 8-piece brass ensemble was because “we don’t want to repeat ourselves because we find it boring.”

For more information on this press conference, head on over to IndyRock.
