Steve Lamacq’s Evening Session

Thom, Ed, and Colin joined three Radiohead fans on Steve Lamacq’s Evening Session on Radio 1 last night. One of the highlights of this interview was the talk of the legend that is “True Love Waits”, the song everyone loves but hasn’t been released yet making the title very appropriate. Thom gave us a simmer of sunshine when he talked about the recording of “True Love Waits”:

“We’d love to record that. We’d love to find a way to do it, other than on an acoustic guitar. We have an entire section in our tape store just for ‘True Love Waits’ versions. Every time we start a version of it we get a different song. For ‘OK Computer’ we got ‘Push Pull’ out of it.”

To listen to this wonderful interview, check out the Radio 1 site.

The concert that Radiohead played for Canal+ on April 28 will be aired on Spain’s Canal+ on June 5 at 23:45. It will also air the same night on TELE PIU’ BIANCO (an Italian satellite network), which will also show a “Making of…” special at 6:05pm followed by the concert at 10:45pm. {thanks to Francesca and Mar}

Hunting Bears

Some of you may have noticed that a French radio DJ, Bernard Lenoir, has been playing a song that he’s claiming is “Hunting Bears” from Amnesaic. The trouble is, the song sounds nothing like “Hunting Bears” and has left many, including myself, confused. We have now learned that the song is indeed not “Hunting Bears” but a new Radiohead song called “Tongue Tied” which will appear as a B-Side for the upcoming “Knives Out” single. The track, which was actually recorded last year, was reportedly leaked by Radiohead’s tour manager, Hilda Carr. If you want to hear “Tounge Tied” then click here. {thanks to DasMonkey}

Radiohead will be performing “Pyramid Song” on Top of the Pops this Friday, May 25 at 7:30pm on BBC1. Also, next Sunday, May 27, there will be an interview with Radiohead on Top of the Pops plus which is on at 12:00 midday. {thanks to Steve, James, and Jack}

Another show in Japan has been announced. The date will be in Budokan, Japan on October 2. Stay tuned for more details… {thanks to Jake}

Remember that Plastic Mutations CD that came out with unknown bands covering Radiohead songs? Well, thanks to the Sawdustmonster, you can know download some of the tracks here so you won’t have to buy the album. 🙂

Clarin, a newspaper in Argentina, has recently published an interview with Thom. If you know Spanish, you can read the interview at their site. {thanks to Santiago and Vero}

Is Rock and Roll dead? Check out this article which tackles that subject and mentions Radiohead. {thanks to Jody}

There is an interview with Ed on Brit Teletext. You can read it at their site. {thanks to Rod}

Interview with GP Webmaster

There is an article at Digital Music Weekly which talks about the Online promotion for Amnesiac. The article also has a small interview piece with a certain Green Plastic Webmaster. *blushes* 🙂

You can read the full NME interview with Thom here.

Also from the NME:

Radiohead are to appear on ‘Top of the Pops’. The band will record a live version their forthcoming single ‘Pyramid Song’ at a filming in west London later today (May 17). In addition, they will also record a version of ‘Knives Out’, the track which is strongly rumoured to be the second single from the band’s forthcoming album ‘Amnesiac’, released on June 4 via Parlophone. It is expected that neither track will feature on this week’s edition of the popular BBC chart show, broadcast every Friday from 7.30pm – instead the songs will be used in a future broadcast.”

Read the article here.

There is a review of Amnesiac at stopsmiling.net

There are going to be some Amnesiac listening parties in Canada on May 24. Right now we only know of two so hopefully there will be more announced soon. One will be happening at the Coliseum Movie Theater in Ottawa. The other will at the Famous Players Paramount Theatre in Toronto where you need to bring in a non-perishable food item in order to get in. It starts at 11pm.

You can order the Japanese “Pyramid Song” maxi single at http://www.towerrecords.co.jp/int/index.html or http://www.hmv.co.jp/eng.asp.

Colin Interview

Colin is interviewed at Wall of Sound and is already talking about album number six:

“We’ve talked about doing a guitar album next,” Greenwood reports. “The reason we did these two records is to show that anything is possible rather than everything is expected; the last thing we wanted to do was go into the studio and make another version of OK Computer. My best guess for the next album is a combination of Amnesiac with more guitar music. But the most important thing is, it’s song-based music rather than sort of instrumental, non-lyric based music. We try not to insult or bore the intelligence of our audience, because we’re aware their tastes are moving on as well as ours with music, and it’s exciting to be part of that.”

You can read the rest of the interview here.
This following is a snippet of the new Mojo interview with Thom that our good friend Lunargirl of Ultimate Intimate (now bjork.com)sent us:

Q: The rumoured Oscar duet with Bjork: what happened?
A: I was briefly on the cards for being A-list – which was great. But only briefly. Because they messed her around quite a lot. In the end, it was probably good I didn’t go over to join her there.
Q: Was it your choice not to perform then?
A: No, it was her decision. Hopefully, we’ll do it somewhere else – like a better place. Working with her was funny, though, because I went and did that session literally the day we’d finished putting “Kid A” together so I was going ‘Yes! I’m out! I’m in someone else’s studio and it’s not my session and I’m not under any kind of pressure.’
Q: Your voices blend well together….
A: Yeah, but it took quite a while to find that blend(laughs). My whole tip at the time was ‘Well, if this is a duet, then we really need to record this together.’ And stylistically, we sing quite differently. I sing quite softly while she really belts it out. And the key was incredibly low for me. So we had to work at it but when our voices finally fitted together it was just the best. Great fun. I haven’t seen the film, though.

Ed and Phil with Neil Finn

What a pleasant surprise! Ed and Phil joined Neil Finn earlier tonight on stage at his show in Manchester. Ed played with Finn for six songs while Phil only played drums for two, though he did play the tamborine for the rest. What’s really cool is both Phil and Ed provided backing vocals for Finn’s final number. Phil, we always knew you could sing!! 🙂

There is a great interview in the very first issue of Blender, a new music magazine put out by Maxim. Thom answers questions sent in by fans and even talks about Noah, his son. Check your local newstand.
