Rumor! Radiohead to play the Zodiac?

Zodiac

Ah, the Zodiac in Oxford. If there was ever a club that could be associated with early Radiohead, it’s this one. Back when Radiohead was just practicing on Fridays, this place was called the CO-OP Dining Hall and later named The Venue. The video for “Creep” was shot here and at one point, the band’s management helped fund it’s re-opening in 1995. Needless to say, this place is a historic Radiohead hotspot.

This Is Oxfordshire has a story about the venue expanding their capacity and transforming to a “club of the future”, whatever that means.

The plans will see the club partially demolished and rebuilt with three separate venues under the same roof. The total capacity will increase from 750 to 1,150 – much of that catered for by a new main venue, capable of holding 900 people, to be renamed The Carling Academy Oxford. The Zodiac’s name will live on, though – giving its name to a smaller 436-person upstairs venue, which will host new bands.

The third element will be a stand-alone bar and club, to be called Bar Academy, which will hold 280 people. Due to fire regulations, the three venues will not operate at maximum capacity at the same time.

Work will start in mid-May, and see the club closed for four months. Its re-opening in September will be celebrated with a party. AMG remains tight-lipped over who could appear, but refuses to rule out the city’s greatest musical export, Radiohead – members of which formerly had a financial interest in the club.

Keep in mind folks, this is a rumor. We’ll keep you updated.

US Tour, Thom Yorke, Plan B

We’re going to have to keep this short and sweet for now: Radiohead should be touring the US sooner than you probably think. ‘Nuff said!
Stay tuned.

RollingStone.com thinks that Thom Yorke is one of the top 5 singers ever. Ever. This was in response to Q magazine naming their top singers (and worst) ever recently. Thom is joined by other legends, such as Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, and Billie Holliday.

Speaking of Thom, there is a very cool video of someone drawing him, and then speeding it up and setting it to music. Check it out.

And finally, a rapper named Plan B has sampled “Analyse” by Thom Yorke. The song is called “Couldn’t Get Along…” and you can hear it at his MySpace.

Oxegen 07, T in the Park, & Bonnaroo

The lineup for Oxegen 07 was announced and there is no mention of Radiohead.

Radiohead was rumored to be playing this festival but of course, that was just a rumor. There is some speculation that they may still headline Sunday night. Who knows.

While the chances of Radiohead playing Oxegen are now slimmer than before, we can still look to the T in the Park festival.

Though nothing has been announced officially about the band being there, we continue to get word that it should happen.

How about Bonnaroo? After last year’s awesome (and lengthy performace) by Radiohead at the Manchester, Tennessee festival, many people have asked us if they will be back this year. Nope. It’s not going to happen folks. Sorry. Our guess is that the timing is just bad. You do want them to finish the new album, right?

Speaking of the new album… we should hopefully have some updates for you soon on this, as well as the tour, soon.

Radiohead to play the Lowlands Festival?

According to the Lowlands Music Festival website, Radiohead will be playing the Dutch festival along with Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam the weekend of August 17th.

We do want to stress that nothing has been announced by the band themselves so please consider this a rumor until made official.

UPDATE: We have been told that this is not the official Lowlands site so this may all be crap. Whatever. 🙂

No Vegas show/Ticketmaster sucks

So, as we expected, the story about Radiohead performing in Las Vegas on March 1 is untrue. W.A.S.T.E. made a statement this morning concerning the “bogus” show.

It has come to w.a.s.t.e’s attention that tickets for a bogus show on the 1st March 2006 in Las Vegas have been sold over the weekend by Ticketmaster.

There is no such show and we are currently investigating why this has happened. We would recommend that those who have purchased these tickets go back to the seller to organise refunds.

Unfortunately, there have been fans that bought tickets after Ticketmaster telling them that Radiohead were indeed playing Bally’s on March 1. The Bally’s box office had no clue about the show and directed all questions to TM. We are now hearing from some fans that Ticketmaster is REFUSING refunds to this bogus show. Though the concert was advertised to be a Radiohead show on Ticketmaster’s website, it is really for the Jubilee dinner show which, according to TM, is now sold out (probably because everyone was thinking it was Radiohead) and they refuse to do refunds on sold out shows.

We seriously hope that we are misinformed and that Ticketmaster will do the right thing and refund tickets.

UPDATE: This was sent to us by Rooch20: “I just spoke to Ticketmaster and they are investigating this. Everyone will get their money back. They just need to get to the bottom of this and then will contact the people who bought tickets….like me!”
