This Mess We’re In

Here’s the latest on the duet with PJ Harvey and Thom Yorke from Music365.co.uk:

PJ HARVEY’s new album is to be called ‘Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea‘ and is to be released in October, Music365 can reveal.

The album is to feature 12 tracks, including a duet withRadiohead frontman Thom Yorke called ‘This Mess We’re In‘. No other track titles have been announced as yet.

In a statement on her website Harvey says of the album: “It’s a wide variety of music, from quite gentle stuff to quite aggressive sounding sorts of music. There’s a wide range of different emotions going on in this album as I like to get as much light and shade into a record as I can.”

The record was recorded at Great Linford Manor in Hertfordshire and was produced by Polly Harvey, Rob Ellis and Bad Seed Mick Harvey.

This comes after Harvey spent much of last year living in New York to get inspiration for her new material.

This month she joins US alt-country outfit Sparklehorse in Barcelona to record material for the band’s third studio album, due out early next year.

The tour is over

Well, Radiohead’s summer tour is now over. The band wrapped things up last Sunday night in Israel. A new song was played, titled “Alligators in New York Sewers”. The song, which featured Thom alone on piano, is available to download at www.ateaseweb.com. Check out www.radiohead.com/tt034.html for possible lyrics.

What’s next for the band? After a brief break, the band are rumored to be heading back in to the studio this August to record new material for either b-sides or possibly a new album or a series of EP releases.

On September 1, the band will start their “Tent Tour” in Newport, South Wales, and will finish up on October 8, in Ireland. More dates could be added, so stay tuned to the tour dates page.

It is uncertain what will happen after the tour… The band could head over to North America and tour towards the end of the year. Once anything is known, you’ll be alerted here!

NME Article

Leave it to the NME to try and analyze each and every comment Thom makes on his web page at the official Radiohead site. Today the NME put an article here describing the latest posting that Thom made, in which he quotes a passage from a book by Malcom Lowry called “Under the Volcano.” The article then goes to question if road fatigue is the reason for Thom going “mad”.
The band have actually been having a good time on the road, and despite any reports or articles, they seem to be enjoying themselves. Phil made a brief appearance on the official message board the other day and said that it was “our best tour yet, i think – well the most enjoyable anyway.

You can read the NME article here.

Another Tour Date!

Because the September 11 show in Werchter, Belgium is nearly sold out, the band have decided to stay an extra day and play again on September 12 at the same location. Tickets can be purchased here.

Sigur Ros opening for Radiohead UK dates?

Some of you may have heard that the very talented band from Iceland, Sigur Ros, might open up for Radiohead this Fall during the tent tour. This is from the website www.sigur-ros.co.uk:

as far as the radiohead tour rumours are concerned, there is a chance that the band will support on the uk dates. they haven’t had an official offer from radiohead yet but are aware of their interest. georg said that they probably can’t play on the european dates due to prior commitments.

Regardless, definitely check out this band!

Special Delivery

How tight is security around copies of the new Radiohead album? Well, tight isn’t even the right word, because advance copies — which record companies always distribute to press and other industry types — of the band’s fourth album don’t even exist at this point.

Radiohead’s manager flew in to Los Angeles from London last week with one copy of the album in hand and played it for employees at the Capitol Records tower in Hollywood. He then took that copy and did the same thing for Capitol staffers in New York City, before getting back on another trans-Atlantic plane to rejoin the band on tour in Europe. The album, which reportedly has the working title Kid A, is tentatively scheduled for an Oct. 3 release.

Colin on BBC

Colin Colin Colin

Colin Greenwood appeared on a panel of two tonight on BBC 2’s news program, “Newsnight”; the feature was the US court decision for the shutting down of Napster. Colin seemed largely against this action which he believes is only for the benefit of record companies and the only people who are really missing out are the fans. He believes he speaks for the entire band when he says that he supports new technology such as this, and remembers a concert they played in Israel where all of the fans were singing their new songs, thanks to the Internet. Colin also mentioned that he was against large corporations attempting to take over the Internet and TV.

New Album update

According to the Belgian newspaper “Le Soir”, the next album is due to release on October 2, 2000. There will probably be different release dates around the world as there was with OK Computer.

[thanks to Julien]

The title of the album has been chosen but not announced yet. Here are the titles that have been flying about the rumor bin:

Pure As Fiction (or pureasfiction)
Kid A
Giant Cogs Turn

*remember, these are rumors.

In a recent interview, Colin mentioned that the band will head back in to the studio this August to and will record their fifth album this Winter. The band has changed the way that they will be doing things so those expecting a full tour like the OKC one will be disappointed. The band plans to tour off and on, while mixing in studio sessions in between shows.

Bjork talks Thom Yorke duet

[from Q Online]:
Bjork discussed her much-anticipated collaboration with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke during a web chat on ArtistDirect.com on Thursday (22nd June), describing the experience of working with Yorke as a ‘dream’. Entitled I’ve Seen It All, the song is to appear on the soundtrack for Lars Von Trier’s Palm d’Or winning film Dancer In The Dark (out in September), which stars Bjork and Catherine Deneuve.

“It was a gorgeous experience,” said, the Icelander. “We spent four days in Spain, singing a few hours a day. It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to blend my voice with his. That was lovely!” She also revealed that the working title for her album is Domestica, which is also being at the Spanish hillside studio where Post was recorded. Asked about the new material she enthused, “It’s gone really well…it feels very exciting. It’s definitely a place I’ve never been in before.” In the mean time a live album is planned for a December release, recorded last year in London, while Radiohead make their first live appearance in the UK at Scott Walker’s Meltdown on Sunday (1st July).
